=SHIP REPORTS - Division 1=

VESSEL: USS Arizona
DIVISION: I
COMMANDING OFFICER: Captain Micheal A. Crowley
EXECUTIVE OFFICER: Commander Kay'xuis del'Aix Jaxx

Ship Report for the month of December, 2001.

For the month of December the USS Arizona and its crew continue their investigation of the previously unknown alien homeworld.

After a nearly a couple of weeks observation, a third phase, that of finding a place for a permanent observation post for future studies by a science crew sent from starfleet, begins. With the universal translators having finally managed to process the aliens' strange syntax, Captain Crowley and an away team head down to the surface, in native disguises, to find one. At the same time, Commander Jaxx(XO) assembles a second team to further investigate the mysterious fourth party and the secret installation. Lieutenant Chekov(CSO) also puts together an away party to closer observe the natives and the planet they live on. Lieutenant Chekov(CTO) remains on the ship in charge.

Captain Crowley's team, consisting of Lt.Cmdr. Carter, Lt.(jg) Cruix, Ensigns Stephens, Me'tchel and Ward, PO's Batok and Kor, begin their search for a place where the future starfleet science observation teams will be situated. They have decided to search among the various natural tunnels spanning several kilometers in diameter below the surface of a long-dead volcano. Once underground, however, the Captain's team discovers that there are faint readings that aren't consistent with the technology of the planet. In fact, it registers as Romulan.

Commander Jaxx's team, having infiltrated the secret installation's compound, were also getting readings of Romulan technology located somewhere inside. He tasks his team on determining why and how the Romulans had arrived here on this remote planet and how much, if any, cultural infection may have happened. Chief Engineer Vahl manages to download all the
information she is capable of getting from one of the facility's consoles. And from initial observation the "Demons" and "Little fellas" were working at building a spaceship.

Lieutenant Mandy Chekov and her science team, meanwhile, are still in an underwater temple. This place has most, if not all, the information that is needed in order to learn about the origins of the "Demons", "LF's" and "Angels", the Angels inhabiting the world-wide hologrid. One of the holo-agents that Chekov and Carter sent into "Mu", discovers a place which turns out to be a download archive with the history of the world. The holo-agent, Roam, downloads and transfers the information directly to
Lieutenant Mandy Chekov's tricorder.

Back in the volcanic tunnels, Captain Crowley's team splits. Lieutenant Commander Carter leads his half further into the underground tunnels to the inside wall of the inactive volcano. After analysis by Ensign Ward, SO, and PO3 Kor, Engineer, they determine this particular place to be an ideal one for the future, permanent observation post. Carter informs the Captain
and the small team returns to the ship.

Meanwhile, Crowley's half of the team have moved closer to where the secret installation is, via underground tunnels, and to where they are getting a stronger reading on Romulan technology. They come to a door where, it is soon discovered, Romulan technology was used and incorporated into the aliens'. Further study shows the possibility of Romulan-like bio readings -
long since decayed - behind the door. Whenever the Romulan had arrived here it had been a long time ago. Crowley calls a halt to any further progress, citing lack of time, gathers his team and returns to the ship to await...

Commander Jaxx's team who, after obtaining all the intel and information they can on the facility, return to the ship and wait for...

Lieutenant Mandy Chekov who, after having a chance to view the information transferred to her via the "Mu" agent Roam, returns to the ship for more than just a cursory glance at the information at hand.

Back on the ship, Ensign Torber Gra'el, who previously had had some kind of device - linked to the "Mu" world somehow - implanted in his head, had it removed by Doctor Grace Kelly and her medical staff. Gra'el is recovering, but suffers from fatigue and depression. How long the effects will last is uncertain.

The post mission briefing reveals this. The alien world was once, first and only, inhabited by the blue-skinned "LF's" (Little Fellas). They were a sparse population that stayed only within the main continent of the planet. This was due, mostly, to the intense climatic situation of the planet. Eventually they became curious about the rest of the world. They set off to
explore and, in time, found a small population of a species never before seen.

This second group, believed to have settled in the island archipelago a long, long time ago, had been so much separated from the original group that they had evolved differently - all owing to location and climate of that area. This group was taller, hairless and appeared to have tattoes all over their bodies that gave a green-scaled effect. To the "LF's" this new group was nothing they had ever seen before...they were...Angelic. And the "LF's" took to worshipping them. And the "Angels" became Gods on this world.

Over time, ages, the world grew...in terms of science and technology. But the "Angels" controlled that level of growth. They allowed only so much information to be had to the "LF's". Those who became especially smart were made priests and, in turn, learned more. As time passed, those certain priests had learned enough and deduced that these "Angels" were no better than the rest of the "LF" world. The only true advantage that the Angels had was knowledge.

Those certain few priests had taught and convinced a small group of their fellow "LF's" to understand and believe that fact. Soon, a faction was created to oppose the, what was now deemed, oppressors...the Angels. The Angels, who's divine mystique was aided by the use of implants that gave them strength and allowed them to control certain things...even at a
distance, had their control facilities on the island archipelago. The "LF's" revolt on the system coincided with a major typhoon that destroyed and submerged the island and the Angels died...all but one, that is.

The "LF's" - those many who still believed in the Angels - felt horrible about what had transpired and looked to punish the small faction that had killed off all but one of the Angels. The faction was captured and ordered to death but the last remaining Angel forbade it.

The remaining Angel was a scientist who worked to create the holo-world of "Mu" in the hopes to recreate her population of Angels in another form. In memory of her fallen brethren. The "LF" anti-Angel faction was used to help create the proper synaptic templates. They didn't survive, but many more devout "LF's" were willing, and did, sacrifice their lives to achieve this. Other attempts were made as well, to recreate the Angels. This was done with genetic tampering of the remaining Angel to some select "LF's". The result was the creation of the "Demons". These being were, at first, believed to be sub-standard forms of life, but that was proven wrong. In time, the "Demons" took over the world, the "LF's" became subservient and the holo-world "Angels" went about their existance...the original programming to look after the "LF's" long since corrupted.

The "Demons" have no love for the "Mu" world Angels but don't dare try to destroy it for fear of revolt from the "LF's". Instead, a group of them had decided to create a secret facility where plans were put forth to build a starship and explore the galaxy, in hopes of leaving behind the Holo-world Angels and discover more of their galaxy around them. Now especially
because of the crash of a Romulan scout on the planet years ago. It is believed this is what sparked their interest...knowing that there are other beings out there.

Just before Jaxx's away team left, they did pick up what could have been the first attempt at creating a stable warp field. Further study is now up to the future starfleet science and observation teams. The USS Arizona gets recalled to Starbase 432 to receive their new mission.

Arrival at the starbase allows the Arizona to take on extra supplies and crew transfers. As well, Agent Parmeter of Temporal Investigations arrives to brief them on their new mission. The planet Nalphaki was home to a race that was on the verge of becoming warp capable. The inhabitants of the world were almost completely destroyed by an Asteroid impact. Very few
survived and it was only by the work of some scientists that they did.

A group of them had created a cure of sorts to heal them of all the contamination suffered by the impact of the asteroid on their world. The cure worked...for a time, but because of a miscalculation many more - and soon the entire race - died off. The Arizona is to time-slingshot back roughly 70 years to replace the default cure, travel back, and observe how the Nalpahki would have fared had they survived...

Of course, not everything goes according to plan...

=SHIP REPORTS - Division 2=

VESSEL: USS Casey
DIVISION: II
COMMANDING OFFICER: Captain Amanda Pike
EXECUTIVE OFFICER: Lt. Commander Bron Mahon

==================
Trying to find out whatever they can about the mysterious Heart of Orion, Deral, Isian and Galiano discuss various theories in the Science department. In Sickbay, Hope and Asa are still trying to help No'Cho. They are later joined by Blake, Rosh and Elek. Over on the Drior, Moc attempts to kill a sleeping Cailla. She turns the tables on him, however, and shoots him first. In another part of the ship, Yarr, G'Tok, Grade and Nirva beam in to begin repairs. G'Tok captures Cailla, but knocks her unconscious. Back on the Casey, Pike and Mahon decide that it would be best to destroy the Heart before it affected or hurt anyone else. Mahon goes to find a way to safely dispose of it. On the Drior, things start to get out of hand. Pike orders a marine team lead by Ryback to assist. Ryback gets the team back, including G'Tok and an Orion man claiming to be Cailla's husband. Blake and Elek begin to look into G'Tok's insubordination. Back on the Casey, the captured Cailla goes into a seizure and dies. This is trick, though, and she wakes up in the morgue an hour later. She makes her way to the science lab, where Pike, Mahon, Rosh and Deral are getting prepared to destroy the Heart. Charging the equipment, the chroniton beam prepares to destroy it's target. Cailla, however, intends to get her jewel back. Breaking into the science lab, she tries to retrieve it but is killed in the attempt. The Heart of Orion is also destroyed. Searching for the Heart, an escaped Orion kills Ensign Leifang in front of No'Cho. Using his mek'leth, No'Cho kills the assailant. Yarr visits G'Tok in the brig, where he's being held for insubordination. Ryback and Rosh prepare a hearing with charges against G'Tok. G'tok is exonerated and returns to his quarters. With the Heart destroyed, many of the crew reflect on it's affect on them, including Pike, Blake, Mahon, Thornton and Elewa. As the Casey pulls into Starbase 11, the crew reflects on their loss of Ensign Leifang and looks toward the future. As the crew begins it's shoreleave, many reflect on the mission they just completed. Having a few drinks on leave is being planned by No'Cho, G'Tok and Rosh. The shoreleave does not start well, for everyone, however. When he disembarks at Starbase 11, Suron is arrested in the death of the former XO of the Casey, Lt. Cmdr. Northcott.

VESSEL: USS Hyperion-D
DIVISION: II
COMMANDING OFFICER: Captain Micheal Brandel
EXECUTIVE OFFICER: Lt. Commander Hannah O'Halloran

The Hyperion was making it's way to DS9. On the way there, Andrews worked on getting better aquainted with the captain. Endu and her crew and the Engineers worked on getting sickbay back together and also on the new Mindy EMH. Strazzco comes onto the bridge and sees that our ops officer was gone and that the newbie didn't quite know what he was doing so Strazzco lends a hand in getting all the supplies and new crew assigned into their places. Serin and Deeks arrive onto the Bridge to get themselves aquainted with their stations. Deeks puts in a request for a special office for him to set up and work from. Hannah OK's it and an office is put together for him. Reyaga spends time in his quarters reflecting on how the recent events has changed his life.

Hannah comes up with an idea to help her get to know her senior staff better. She runs the idea by the captain who thinks it is a good idea to help pass some of the time until the ship reaches DS9. All senior staff and a date if they have one, were invited to holodeck 3 for a formal dinner party. Hannah goes to sickbay and enlists Thomas' help. Everyone except Pretor of the senior staff and Eyri, as Brend'ell's date go to the party.

At the dinner party, Endu shows up fashionably late and with a big entrance and not wearing the required Starfleet dress uniform. Also at the Party the Captain and MCapt. Sumrak announce their engagement. Hannah and Seriva go off for a bit so that Seriva could help Hannah with her blocking. After the dinner, a game of charades was organized.

The Hyperion finally gets to DS9. After the Hyp is docked, Captain Brandel and Hannah go to the bridge of the starbase where they are taken to meet with Colonel Kira Nerys. When they get to her office, she hands over the rest of their orders and explains to them the importance of the mission. Brandel and Hannah then go back to the ship and brief Thomas on what is
about to take place. He then gets together with Dr. Bashir and gets all the necessary medical supplies that are needed for the mission.

While at DS9, the Hyperion picks up a new crewmember, Ensign Michael Sutherland, a fighter pilot. He is put into the position of Gamma Flight leader. Strazzco, decides to put Vidane in charge of the fighters while he explores maybe going to ops.

After all the supplies are stored onto the Hyperion, the Hyperion then enters the wormhole and heads towards the Rocarpes' new world in the Gamma quadrant. Unknown to them, the Xenepox, the Rocarpes' old enemy has found out about the Rocarpes. They send a ship to stop the Hyperion from helpingthe Rocarpes. The Hyperion arrive and are greeted by the Prime Minister Tauld. He is beamed aboard the Hyperion to sickbay to be checked first to make sure he isn't contagious to the crew of the Hyperion. He is then taken to the Conference room, where Brandel, Brend'ell and Hannah try to get negotiations together. Endu is ordered to co-ordinate with Thomas on helping the Rocarpes with the epidemic and to help try and find a cure.

While in the conference room, Hannah and Brandel are told that an unidentified ship was approaching. Just as the ship is in range, a message comes from DS9 telling the Hyperion that the ship is the Xenepox. The Xenepox fire upon the Hyperion. The Hyperion launch their fighters and try to fire back. After some manuverings from the Hyperion and fighters, the Hyperion is able to get the upper hand. The Xenepox then release a shuttlecraft that has a biological bomb attached. The Hyperion works to get the shuttle disabled without destoying it. During the battle, Zidane is injured. The fighters are able to move the shuttle out of the way of the planet in case of an explosion. Sumrak, Kurtz and Endu take a shuttle and go to the Xenepox shuttle to try to dismantle the bomb on the shuttle.

Brandel orders the Xenepox ship to surrender, but the Xenepox end up destroying themselves. Hannah goes to sickbay to check on the injured and offer her help. Seriva during the battle, comes to the bridge to offer her help with Brend'ell in calming down the Rocarpes' Prime Minister. In sickbay, Hannah helps and gets overwhelmed. Thomas and she take a break in his office where they talk. Strazzco after getting hurt somehow during his flight, comes to sickbay to check on Zidane and get some medical treatment. Hannah goes back to the bridge for duty while Brandel goes and checks on how things are going in the conference room. Sutherland does some patrols in his fighter and then heads in and after changing goes to sickbay to also
check on Zidane.

On the Hyperion, the Prime Minister, after some calming down by Seriva, agrees that his people need the Hyperion's help, but he refuses to re-enter the Federation. He is escorted to the transporter room and transports back down to his planet. In Sickbay, Strazzco has a run in with Mindy. Sutherland comes to sickbay to check on Zidane and Strazzco introduces him to
Mindy. Hannah's shift is over and so she goes to her quarters to spend some time with her girls. When she gets to her quarters, she comes down with another headache. Thomas walks in and he and Hannah talk about their day. Strazzco has taken over the bridge duties for the third shift. He and Reyaga afterwards do some talking. Reyaga has concerns that there is still some
security problems on the Hyperion.

The away team on the shuttle, trying to disarm the bomb, end up having trouble and end up in sickbay with ratiation exposure. Endu and Shokan didn't get hurt as badly as Sumrak though. Captain Brandel, upon hearing about the accident goes to sickbay to see how Sumrak is doing. Osron can tell that the Captain is more upset then he's letting on, so he contacts the Counselor to have her talk to the Captain.

Crew members celebrate Christmas, while in their quarters, Thomas remembers that Christmas is also Hannah's birthday and gives Hannah a special gift. Sutherland is in the mess hall (called the Hy-deaway) having some fun with other crew.

It is time for the away team to get the supplies together and head to the planet. Hannah is in charge of the away mission. The away team consists of Thomas, Osron, Shackleton, Seriva, and Endu along with Hannah. They put supplies in two shuttles. One has medical supplies and the other has supplies to erect a quarantine building on the planet. After the Shuttles are loaded, they head to the planet, escorted by one of the Hyperion's fighters. On the Planet, the away team leave the shuttles in Evac suits to help protect them from the virus. They meet with the Health commissioner and two council members. They request that Thomas go to their hospital to look at the patients. Thomas agrees to go.

Back on the Hyperion, the Prime Minister is transported back to the Hyperion for more talks. One of his companions that comes with him is detected to have the virus during transportation and is immediately transported to sickbay in a quarantine force field. After hearing about what happened, Captain Brandel orders Ensign Sutton to go to sickbay and help assist Mindy
with the ill Rocarpian. After Sutton leaves, Captain Brandel leaves the bridge in Pretor's hands and with Andrews accompanying him heads to the conference room for another meeting with the Prime Minister. Down on the surface, the Away team are busy unloading the shuttles. Endu walks over to where Osron is helping Shackleton and after some talk shows off her
"superior" strength by helping with the unloading.

=SHIP REPORTS - Division 3=

VESSEL: USS Edison
DIVISION: III
COMMANDING OFFICER: Captain William Drab
EXECUTIVE OFFICER: Lt Commander Christian Verona

<<Mission Summary>>
The Venatts are a species who recently reached warp capability. This is the mark for the Federation to welcome them on to the big galactic stage.

The Edison's mission is to build a first contact and to determine if the Federation should offer them certain treaties, including trade, etc. Each section of the ship is supposed to study their planetary counter-parts.

On our way to Venatt we learn that Lt. Verona won't be with us on the mission as he's to attend Command School and that Lt Pax and Lt jg Rimmer are responsible for this mission. Both aren't throughoutly comfortable with this new task but they will arrange themselves.

In the meantime Ryan Bones tells Ens Die about his past as a mercenary.

The new Doctor - Capp Yetis - is being instructed by Lt jg Tiqlek as Lt jg Rimmer is currently in charge of the mission and therefore unable to train the new collegue.

The ship soon reaches the system of Venatt and enters the orbit of the little ball of rock that is protected from its suns harsh light only by a very thin ozone layer.

The beamed down to investigate and learn as much about the Venatt society as possible. Ens Seraph, for example, tours a powerplant. He asks Ens Cochrane and Ens Die to do the tour with him again as he is susicious.

The Command crew is asked to return to the ship and the situation is discussed. The decision to confront the Venatts with their unusual power readings and their lies is drawn quickly. It turns out to be a bad idea - a group of Romulans storms the hall and Captain Drab gets captured. Also on an other part of the planet, Izumi and Cochrane are captured.

A rescue attempt doesn't reveal the Captain who was meanwhile brought onto a romulan ship. He was returned and the Romulans and the USS Edison departed...

<<End of "Venatt" mission; Start of "Shore Leave 4">>

This shoreleave takes place right after the Venatt mission and the ship is still in the orbit of Venatt. The upcoming celebration of christmas leads to a decorated christmas tree standing in 10 Forward with all kinds of people helping in the process of replication, transportation and decoration.

Led by June Craig some of the crew start a holoadventure that takes place in ancient egypt. The task seems simple: find and recover the scepter hidden within the temple. After setting the highest possible difficulty the friends start out into the adventure facing all kinds of traps and hidden paths. Through the middle of the program the friends split up into two teams taking
different ways.

Of course, both teams face another pair of dangerous situations ending up together at the scepter after opening a stone door with the symbol of Ankh!

The rejoined team is faced by a bunch of creatures whom they fight well until teh scepter is taken from high above their heads. It was in the hands of a huge sculpture and got into the hands of Seraph now. Unfortunately the fight isn't over yet - a 3m tall creature attacks the friends - determined to kill them...

(Special thanks to PO3 Solak for writing the above summaries; they can be found on the Edison webpage in the "Logs" section.)

The Away Team finds a cave to stay in while waiting for rescue. They also take time to treat the wounded. Cadet naala has been exposed to the Virus and it is start to take affect on her. Cadet Nightheaven knife wounds where tend too and the arrow in his leg was removed but the arrow head had to be left in. LT Bexter determines it would be best to get Nightheaven back
to the Argylle immediately.

Engineer Mate Grimm figures out away for the Uss Argylle to be able to communicate with he Away team.

Cadet Swain thinks he might have stumbled upon a way to stop the virus from infecting any new people.

Cadet Neera Baliya is able to land a rescue shuttle in the storm and is searching for the Away team. After locating the away team and evading the Planets Natives. The away team makes it to the shuttle and cadet Baliya lifts off headed back to the Uss Argylle. The shuttle makes it back to the ship.

Cadets Naala and Nightheaven are treated for the virus but unfortunly cadet Naala pass away from to much exposure to the virus. But Nightheaven will survive. Warning beacons are placed in orbit around the planet to quantine it so no-one else caught the virus. Then Argylle heads for home.

The Dauntless leaves to go find out what happen to the telliarine ship that was investigating a derelict alien ship. With no trouble at all the Dauntless locates the alien craft or more like it finds them. they try to scan it but conventional scanner systems don't work so they try boosting it by shutting down all non essential system and combine the scanners with A tycoon beam. But this proves useless too.

CPO Romano along with cadets take the Shuttle craft Nexus over to the ship. They are able to dock with the ship without any trouble and enter her. The first few rooms that they go thru give them the imprison that the inhibities of this ship are very Large. They continue exploring and one of the doors in the ship opens up and reveals a inhabinit. But it turns out to be some sort of maintence droid.

They move on and discover the engine room. Engineer Cadet Zevart Quince Figures out how to work some of the controls and finds out that the ship has traveled at least two million light years, The distance to the next Galaxy.

Cdr Carter joins the away team. Security robots surround the away team and escort them deeper into the ship. They are escorted to a room that looks like the brig and left there. Cadet Swan scans the room with a tricorder and figured out a way to adjust his comm badge to be able to talk to the Dauntless.

While waiting in the cell. The Tellarite captain walks in. He explains to them that his crew has been missing around with the ships controls in attempt to learn as much s they can about the ship. They have learn much and hope to learn more.

It is also a possibility that the Gorn are descendent from this race. this is because the robots look like the Gorn.

=MARLEYS CORNER=

Welcome to another edition of Marley’s Corner, with another exciting interview with captain Tzipora Simcha, aka Becky Manes.

As in other interviews, we first asked two people about Becky, her ‘M.O.’ and the work relation aboard the ship.
They had the following to say:

“She cares more for her crew as individuals than she would ever care for the durralloy and metal that makes up the ship she commands. She takes the game a bit further than most players. She cares for her people as friends, not just characters.” - Commander C. Dean Hays

"Captain Tzipora Simcha is what I would call the Fleet's 'quiet achiever'. Never one to attract attention, she subtly and unobtrusively moulds her crew and guides her command staff. She is also happy to take a back seat and let budding young RPG'ers have a real chance at learning something new. She is the sort of Commanding Officer that makes you feel special and honored if your lucky enough to be promoted or commended by her - something she rarely does for it makes it seem more important and respected that way. She is an excellent CO/GM, and I am extremely proud to be her Executive Officer aboard
the U.S.S. Bismarck NCC-1108 B" – Commander H. McManus, XO USS Bismarck

Now we continue with the interview, which proved to be quite interesting. Let’s just hope the readers think so too.

Marley:
When did you join TF?
Becky Manes:
November 1997. I just started my fifth year in TF. I was assigned to the Saturn at the end of 1997. I still got the email that Rear Admiral Todd sent me in response to an email that I sent him and it's dated January 2, 1998.
Marley:
did the mail bring back many memories? How were your first years in TF?
Becky Manes:
Sure did. I have a lot of memories from serving all around the fleet. I was looking for some medical information that I knew I had from then Lt. Commander Liesel Gresham and saw it. Well, I sent the information that Brenda needed and remembered the friends I made while serving on her. I got lots of wonderful memories of the USS Masada under one Admiral Kierra Priest
as well as from the USS Pegasus, the first one and not the current one. The first CO of the Pegasus that I served under had some crazy missions. Then I transferred my Saturn character, Lt. Grace Kelly, to the USS Avalon where she still is today. I've served on a lot of ships in the fleet.
Marley:
And how did Captain Simcha appear?
Becky Manes:
I did my internship on the USS Atrius under Fleet Admiral Andy Grimm. His XO had left the ship, and he needed an XO. Well, he asked me to stay as the XO. I had created this character, Tzipora Simcha, to stay on in the Science department but became the XO instead of a Science officer. Later, the position for CO came open on the Bismarck after now Rear Admiral Liesel Greshem started the USS Endymion. She transferred as a Commander but later became Captain Simcha.
Marley:
that is good. Is being an District Advisor and being a captain easy to combine?
Becky Manes:
They are two entirely different jobs. I serve on two of the ships in my division so keeping up with them is easier than the other two. I do a LOT of reading, up to about 300 emails a day, and just enjoying what I'm reading. As captain, I'm responsible for the Bismarck and her missions, the crew, but I let Hayden do the web pages since he's so much better at it then me. When
there is something that I need to know about that is happening behind the scenes that might appear on my "desk", the CO keeps me informed and/or might ask me for some advice. Sometimes, they do appear on my desk for me to handle but sometimes the CO is able to keep everyone happy. When I got command of the Bismarck, I relied a lot on John Greshem, who was my DA at the time. They wanted me to change divisions (if I remember correctly) so that the Bismarck was in MY division. While I had acted as Captain on the Atrius, nothing had prepared me for being captain of my own ship. I don't
know if I could have done it without my own division advisor. I also had some wonderful mentors, one of whom is Amy Lindeman. She took a very active role in the USS Masada and we had a lot of fun there.
Marley:
Ever thought of going back to the ships?
Becky Manes:
As another character? I'm on the Bismarck, Arizona, and Protostar. I've served all over the fleet in four years. I think I've had as many as five or six at one time. I don't have that much time now.
Marley:
So it's safe to say you dedicate a lot of time to TF
Becky Manes:
Before my son was born, I would dedicate about six hours or more a day to the fleet. But at the same time, I was DA to about eight ships (when we had 14 or 15) and was serving on five. As one left the fleet or disbanded, I didn't move the character I had created anywhere. Now, I still spend a lot of time online but generally spend about three a day to the fleet.
Marley:
Any ambitions within TF?
Becky Manes:
ME? I served as acting CnC and I don't have the time to devote to the position. I'm a DA of four ships and that is something I enjoy. I'm captain of the Bismarck. I can't be promoted anymore since I'm an Admiral, but that is OK with me. I honestly don't want to be the Fleet Admiral. I've served as an instructor at the Academy and in fact, Tom Coonradt (or Commodore Derik Turner) of the Lancelot was one of my cadets. I'd like to just continue with my current jobs
Marley:
hehe, okay, What would be your goal for TF. What would you like to see it achieve over time?
Becky Manes:
I'd like to have a nice fleet with a few more ships. I'd like to see the ships we have flourishing with around 20-25 people on a ship. I've seen ships flounder and then die because of a CO who didn't ask for help or because they didn't agree with someone else in the fleet. I saw the fleet torn apart because of this or that. I saw some really fine COs leave, and they will more than likely never return from the way that they were treated. There is no way that you can compare TF to any other fleet out there. This is the best fleet there is, and I've served in some of the bigger ones. We have a good Executive Staff who are willing to do anything to help anyone, no matter what their rank. I know that I am willing to talk to anyone about anything and I try to listen more than I talk. I'd like to see the Command Council get together to have a meeting in person like they used to where ideas were tossed around, but with people living all across the world, that is hard to do.
Marley:
How do you see the relations between Tango Fleet and the sister fleets, such as Bravo Fleet?
Becky Manes:
In my position as DCnC, I've had the fortune to meet Fleet Admiral Mike Bremer. I think he's the only one that I know of our sister fleets. Most of the time, they deal with the CnC, and not the DCnC. But I think that only time will improve our relations with other fleets. TF was one of the charter members of a group of CnCs called the EFA, and wouldn't you know that I can't remember what it stands for.
Marley:
mmh, me neither, and I won't try to guess... Let's turn to the Bismarck. How would you describe the Bismarck's reputation
Becky Manes:
I really don't know the Bismarck's reputation. You'd have to ask people around the fleet. We have the zaniest crew around, but I'd put them up against any other ship in the fleet.
Marley:
And the overall atmosphere aboard?
Becky Manes:
The ship is made up of friends. I know that we are having some new crew joining us but they will be friends with everyone else. It's like a big family. When I joined her (March, 1999), I was scared. I didn't know a single person on the ship. Since then, the ship has flourished, thanks to the others in the crew. I've enjoyed being on ships where you could talk to the CO about anything. I remember complaining to Amy Lindeman about the CO of the Saturn for a long time. He would start a mission, and then that would be it until he ended it. He was so unapproachable. Then with Amy, she wanted to know what others thought about things. You never had a predictable mission under her. But not under Todd. He chewed out the crew on time because the mission (without him writing anything to move it along) wasn't going the way he wanted to. He literally stopped the mission and steered it back the way he wanted it to go. I learned a lot from him. He was a nice guy, but I just never felt like I could talk to him like I did Amy. Amy Lindeman has helped me in so many ways that she will never know about. One of them is that your crew needs to be able to talk to you, and to respond to their questions quickly, even if it's to tell them that you are going to think about it and discuss it with someone else.
Marley:
And you expect to be commanding the Bismarck for a while to come, I hope?
Becky Manes:
At this point in time, I have no intention of giving up the command of the USS Bismarck. And it will probably be Captain Tzipora Simcha until I retire from the command.
Marley:
excellent. So, have you got any last thoughts to round up this interview?
Becky Manes:
I'd like to see Tango Fleet grow and expand, but only when she's ready. TF isn't the same fleet I joined back in November, 1997, but then again, I'm not the same either. I've watched the fleet grow and then suffer from growing pains, only to start growing again. If anyone has anything that they need to talk to someone about, my email box is always open and you can find
my email on the TF Fleet Command Manifest or on the Bismarck site. If you got ideas that you would like an opinion on or you would like to present to the Executive Staff, email me. I'll let you know something within 24 hours of receiving it, even if it's to tell you what is going on. Everything will be kept in strictest confidence (if you want to keep it that way), and that is a policy I've always had.
Marley:
And with that I thank you for your time, as this concludes the interview :-)
Becky Manes:
I can't believe you wanted to interview me. There are a lot more interesting people in the fleet besides me. Steve Marriott and Amy Lindeman for example. I'm just a simple starship Captain.
Marley:
We're interviewing the captains now, but I'm quite sure we'll get to them as well ;-)
Becky Manes:
Just make sure you talk to Lindeman. She's got better stories to tell than I do.
Marley:
anyway, thank you for your time
Becky Manes:
No problem. Anytime.

This concludes this month’s interview. Next month I will of course be here again, with another great interview with a TF captain. Right now I’m late for a poker match with the good captain and commander Cho, so until then, I wish you love and life.

Jason Marley
